2. “Philosophy Eats AI for Breakfast”
MIT leadership researchers Michael Schrage and David Kiron argue that philosophy, not just technology, fundamentally shapes how AI systems reason, predict, and create. For today’s leaders, the message is clear: AI’s enterprise future belongs not to those who merely harness computational power, but to those who articulate philosophical frameworks that align AI capabilities with organizational values and objectives, treating philosophical alignment not as academic exercise but as strategic necessity in AI implementation.

3. “When Confidence Outpaces Competence: Revisiting Dunning-Kruger”
Though basics of the Dunning-Kruger effect are increasingly well-known – those who lack competence confidently overestimate their abilities, while true experts underestimate the value of theirs – this helpful overview by two founders of The Decision Lab explores related research, impacts, and, especially, actions that can be taken in response. The overarching explanation is that novices lack the metacognitive skills or self-awareness to recognize their shortcomings at the same time experts assume their expertise is common knowledge. Despite questions about its scientific status, the organizational impact of the cognitive bias remains significant: it inflates egos, distorts self-awareness, fuels imposter syndrome, causes resistance to feedback, and can lead to poor decision-making, missed learning opportunities, and even shape misguided policies or organizational dysfunction. In an era when the loudest voices often command the most attention, creative leadership demands not just confidence, but the discernment to know when to question it. Practically, this can translate into establishing objective performance metrics, nurturing a culture where humility is rewarded alongside achievement, encouraging peer collaboration an acknowledging varying skill levels, and implementing structured feedback systems that bypass the cognitive blind spots that limit both individual growth and team innovation.

4. “Adam Smith: Cooperation Before Competition”
In a classic review essay, U.S. historian Garry Wills dismantles the caricature of Adam Smith as the prophet of self-interest, revealing a thinker deeply concerned with cooperation and moral order. 5. “Analogy and the Roots of Creative Intelligence”
In The Human Edge, poet and UCLA cognitive scientist Keith J. Holyoak argues that analogy – our ability to perceive relationships between disparate ideas across domains – is the cornerstone of creative intelligence, enabling scientific discovery, innovation, and meaning-making. This superpower emerges around age three and underpins both problem-solving and creative breakthroughs. While sharing certain cognitive foundations with other species, humans possess a unique ‘Late System’ that allows for domain-general relational thinking. Analogical thinking enables us to transfer solutions across contexts, as evidenced by experiments where participants solve medical problems using military strategies. And as AI systems become more capable of mimicking analogical reasoning, Holyoak believes they still lack the flexible, deep relational thinking that analogy enables. For creative leaders and organizing, the implications are profound: deliberately cultivating analogical thinking in teams can unlock innovative solutions to complex challenges. By bridging disciplinary boundaries and building environments where diverse knowledge connections flourish, leaders can foster the cross-pollination of ideas that drives creativity and innovation.
